Our Mission Statement

Our mission at Heartlight Kids is to provide families with as high a quality childcare and preschool environment as possible. This is a place where parents can be comfortable knowing their children are receiving the love and attention they need in a safe environment that respects and supports diversity. It is a place where children can feel secure and happy. We believe in nurturing the whole child - physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual.

As there are many aspects to each child,  there must also be many aspects to a complete child care program. The underlying core of our program is to allow each child to maintain his or her connection with that spiritual part of themselves. Nurturing the spirit includes a reverence for nature, an appreciation of the interconnectedness of all things, and the cultivation of peacefulness, compassion, generosity, and love. We teach the GOLDEN RULE.

Our programs are designed from that base. Our daily curriculum includes a balance of active and quiet, individual and group, and child and teacher initiated activities. We emphasize exploration, play, imagination, and warm relationships between children and teachers. Lots of book reading, discussions, and activities encourage children to ask questions and share discoveries. Children choose the activities they are most interested in. They engage in play and projects, and talk with their teachers and peers about what they have learned. This approach allows even very young children lots of practice in sharing their thoughts and feelings, asking questions, making predictions and drawing conclusions. It also helps in expanding their vocabulary, and in reading readiness. (Studies show that a large vocabulary at school entry is a strong indicator of later success.) We want to help children to become life-long learners, by learning early to love learning.

In “Nurturing the Whole Child” we are very aware of the need for developing healthy eating and exercise habits. The meals and snacks served, as often as possible, are whole grain foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and extremely limited sugar. We also have a large outdoor play area, and supervised play time everyday, so the children can develop their large motor skills as well as their minds.
